Center Head Start is located in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado. The Center site enrolls 74 children, ages 3-5 in the Center school district. The Saguache site enrolls 18 children, ages 3-5 in the town of Saguache. We offer a part day program September through May. Transportation is provided. Services offered include the education program with qualified, bilingual teachers using Creative Curriculum. A full range of health services including medical, dental, vision and hearing are offered. Services for children with special needs are provided through a partnership with the San Luis Valley Board of Cooperative Services. Daily breakfast and lunch are served to the children by trained nutrition personnel who cook from scratch and are commended by reviewers. Parents are welcomed in our program and invited to participate on the Policy Council, Parent Committee, and as volunteers in various capacities. Parents, staff, and community are involved in our annual Book Fair, Health Fair, Cinco de Mayo celebration, and the Reading Is Fundamental Program. Applications are accepted throughout the year and a waiting list is kept. Ninety percent of our children are required to meet income guidelines.
